Adolescence is a very stressful and lonely age, lots of changes occur during this period, mentally, physically, and socially. We would be focusing on our brothers (the male gender). While you were thinking they were just acting up and weird for no reason, they are actually going through the stage of leaving puberty.
This period coincides with the teen years and these days you’ll see some teenagers sprouting and nursing beards, I mean they are already feeling big. Stop yelling at that young man, here are some signs you should look out for:
1. Independence: He wants total freedom from everybody, he wants to do absolutely whatever and everything he thinks is right with or without your permission. You don’t get to a boss or order him around, you have to be humble because your brother is now a boss so be warned and don’t overstep your boundaries.
2. Privacy: When you see your brother running here and there restlessly, talking in a hushed voice on the phone, just know that he is probably talking to a girl and he doesn’t and won’t for anything in this world allow you to hear one word from that conversation.
They become so private and secretive, always doing secret stuff, running to corners to pick up calls, they lock their rooms, phones, bags, and everything that can be closed. They are not giving out any information no matter how much you ask. Sometimes they prefer to eat in private which is very confusing but don’t be, some things are not just normal with them at that moment.
3. He has little patience: He gets angry at everything and anything, if you say one, he already said twenty, you can’t tell him to calm down when he is angry because that worsens the situation. He takes up fights over very trivial and little things, when you try to ask him why he is angry over something so little, he would hate you for saying that, it is like you’re pouring salt over a fresh wound, you’re questioning him which he finds very unacceptable and annoying.
4. He starts claiming rights: Now that he feels he is old enough to judge situations, he starts to claim rights and respect, “You can’t expect me to do this”, and “I’m way too old for that”. He feels he knows something so therefore you can’t just force your opinions on him, he won’t allow it.
5. No one understands him: Parents or Guardians get confused too; one minute he is fine and the next, he wants to fight. To him, you’re too old to understand his point of view so he would live in his own head. As a matter of fact, he sees life at that period as if he is the only sane person living and no matter how hard you try, you can’t understand him.
6. His friends are his priorities: Gone are those days when you people are doing siblings' goals. Since you’re too old to understand him and children are way too young for him, he finds support amongst his peers and friends because he feels that they are the only ones that understand him. He would not allow any chance to be embarrassed in front of his friends, he would try to avoid that by all means even if it takes pretending not to know you.
7. Sex is top priority: Because their sexual organs have developed so much to a certain extent, they start to have wet dreams; they want to explore, they are so curious about sex and that is when they would start taking their affection for girls to another level. Of course, they’ll keep this away from you to avoid being judged. Your brother can impregnate someone at this age.
Being an adolescent comes with emotional instabilities, there are so many things they want that are against society’s beliefs, so every now and then, there is a conflict between them and the world. Don’t be on your brother’s matter every time and let him breathe. Those changes going on with him are enough already.
